Hello all, have a noob question here so apologies if the answer is super obvious. I’d like to incorporate Sharetribe’s marketplace API which is an HTTP API as mentioned here:

The link also mentions that the easiest way to make use of their APIs is through their SDK.

So my question is can I use either of these options thru Draftbit since the only API section I could find is the one mentioning a REST API with Graph and Airtable to come soon.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Cyrus — you wouldn’t be able to use the SDK at this time. If that appeals to you, definitely add it to! In the meantime you should be able to use the Rest API directly. We’re spending a ton of time on this stuff right now, so using rest APIs is going to get a lot better in the near future, so stay tuned for the next couple weeks.

Hey Cyrus – REST is a style of HTTP based API’s. Most API’s you’ll access in this way will be restful but it depends on the specific service/api. You use HTTP methods to access these RESTful API’s (like GET, PUT, PATCH, etc). Some more reading:

In general most modern web services will have a REST based API, but you may or may not be able to use them with the way we have REST Requests defined in Draftbit – but as I mentioned we’re actively updating this currently so REST Api’s will get easier over the next few weeks.

Hey Brian - Thanks for the detailed info. Much appreciated. Had a follow up question please when you have time as I’m trying to use Youtube’s JSON API. I tried checking out those sites for info specific to JSON but it’s still not clear to me if Draftbit will work with this API or not as there was an older thread where it seemed like additional tweaking was required to use JSON. Here’s the direct Youtube API link that mentions JSON:

Thanks in advance,

Hey Cyrus — We’ve rolled out some new features related to API’s. Check them out and let me know if they address your questions. Thanks!

Hey Brian - Thanks for heads up! Just tried looking in the “data and services” section of the app builder and I only see Rest API. Is there another section you were referring to? Thanks!

Hey Cyrus – Yeah we’ve refactored and vastly improved our REST Api’s, you should be able to use some of the api’s from google you mentioned in the earlier post.

Thanks @brian! So just to clarify, HTTP APIs are one type of Rest API? I’ve also found others that are JSON APIs such as this one: Does Rest encompass all JSON?

On a related note, do you know what type of APIs Youtube and Facebook happen to be as it doesn’t seem very clear to my eyes:

Sorry for the noob questions but completely new to the wonderful world of APIs.

Happy 4th!
